Our dogs poop. We all know this, yet we don’t tend to talk a whole lot about it. Maybe we should talk about it more! As much as this fact isn’t the most exciting part of dog ownership, making our lives a bit easier when our pups do poop can be a game-changer with pet ownership.

I know from my own experience that not all poop bags are made the same. Some leave me frustrated (and feeling gross), so finding a good product to help keep things clean is pretty important to me – and I think it’s silently important to everyone else, too. Luckily, The Original Poop Bags was that innovative solution that not only solved bathroom woes for me but is also out to make the world a better place. Yes, poop bags can make the world better!

    About The Original Poop Bags

    The-Original-Poop-Bags

Who Makes The Original Poop Bags and Where is it Produced?

The website URL for The Original Poop Bags is quite literally www.PoopBags.com, so I am very inclined to believe this is the original poop bag. Founded by Paul D. Cannella, aka “Mr. Poop Bags™,” Paul had the vision to make the world a cleaner and healthier place, one bag at a time. Although the bags are made in the United States, The Original Poop Bags are making a difference globally.

The Original Poop Bags Mission Statement

What sets The Original Poop Bags apart from the rest is the company’s mission: to reduce the amount of plastic waste associated with caring for our four-legged friends. Each bag is made of recycled material and is USDA-certified biodegradable!

But, The Original Poop Bags go far beyond this by partnering with the Jane Goodall Institute, of whom Paul is a big supporter. This allows the company to offer a “You Buy, We Donate” partnership, in which a portion of each purchase is donated to assist in vital conservation and animal welfare initiatives. As of recently, 20% of each purchase is donated to save Peanut, a 5-year-old elephant rescued from chains and cruel captivity.

Who Are These Products Meant For?

On the nitty gritty of things, The Original Poop Bags is meant for any animal that poops. Dogs, cats, parrots, and any creature who requires clean-up. With so many options on the website available, poop bags can be ordered and tailored to the individual pet owner to bulk orders for boarding and daycare facilities, veterinary hospitals, and more.

    Key Features

    The-Original-Poop-Bags

Here are some of the fantastic features that almost all of the products in the Original Poop Bags catalog have!

    Material

All of the bags (and even the bag holder!) are comprised of 38% plant-based materials and 62% polyethylene. Each product is officially USDA Certified Biobased, meaning the bags feature renewable biological ingredients. The Original Poop Bags states that all of their products are fully compostable and will not add to the awful landfills of plastic.

The material feels fairly silky (it is interesting to describe a bag like this, but it is true) and smooth. It always features a vibrant green color that is easy to spot.

    Durability

For poop bags (or any bag for that matter), durability is of utmost importance. Although some customers have stated that the bag feels a bit thin, no one has complained about its durability! Designed to withstand quite a bit of weight inside there, the bags will not rip nor get you icky. Great Dane owners can surely rejoice here!

    Size Options

There are a slew of size and bag options for every scenario.

    The bag sizes offered include:
    • Poop roll bags (the traditional kind we all know) are 9” x 13”
    • Handle-tie poop bags are 7” x 13”
    • Bulk Rolls Poop Bags are 8” x 13”
    • The Pick Up Backyard Bags are 12” X 12”
    • The Bulk Rolls Poop Bags Jumbo Size are 12” X 13.5”
    • For more commercial purposes, 13-gallon and 45-gallon trash bags are available

    Scented and Unscented

Some of the products come in both scented and unscented options. All of the scented bags have a subtle, nice orange scent. Both the scented and unscented bags conceal the smells you want concealed!

    Ease Of Use

No one wants to fumble with a poop bag on a walk, and luckily all of the bags provided by The Original Poop Bags feature an easy-to-open perforation. I know that all poop bags technically have a perforation, but this brand’s truly is easy-to-open – I have yet to have one stuck. The material of the poop bags also doesn’t stick to one another, so it easily and gently slides off.

    The-Original-Poop-Bags

The cost varies depending on the product and the quantity needed, but it is very affordably priced (especially since a portion of the proceeds are donated). As of May 2024, the prices look like this:

This month, 20% of all proceeds are going towards saving Peanut the Elephant, and 100% of the Peanut the Elephant merchandise is also being donated.

    Peanuts Characters

Some of the bags feature the beloved characters of the Peanuts series, with the cutest artwork ever! These are exclusively licensed by The Original Poop Bags.

The Reviews of the Products We Received

    1. Countdown Rolls Unscented Poop Bags

    Countdown Rolls Unscented Poop Bags

At first sight, these rolls look like any other poop bag. However, there are a few subtle differences that make a big impact! For starters, the initial sticker that holds the roll together is perforated, so you don’t rip the first bag trying to get the sticker off. Second, the perforation is very prominent and easy to use, with each bag separating without much force needing to be applied. Although this bag is unscented, it conceals the smell of waste very well inside.

    Pros
    • Bags count down on the roll
    • Unscented but still hides the waste smell
    • Silky feeling material
    Cons
    • Feels thin at times, so you can feel the waste inside of it

    2. Countdown Rolls Orange Scented Poop Bags

Countdown Rolls Orange Scented Poop Bags

The same as the unscented version, the orange scent is very pleasant and not overwhelming. The bag does feel thinner at times, but it is extremely durable and will certainly not rip, able to easily contain a significant amount of weight. The bags counting down from 15 is extremely useful, allowing you to know how many bags are left on the roll (rather than playing the guessing game)!

    Pros
    • Bags count down on the roll from 15 to 1
    • Subtle orange scent that isn’t overwhelming
    • Easy-to-tear perforation
    Cons
    • Same as the scented, it feels a bit thin

    3. Handle Tie Poop Bags

    Handle Tie Poop Bags

The handle tie bags are a great solution for those needing to tie a bag quickly, those with disabilities that may find tying a traditional poop bag more difficult, or someone needing a bit more size. Made of the same material as the other bags from The Original Poop Bags, the silky feeling of the material is rather unique to this company. Each bag is individual and does not come on a tear roll.

    Pros
    • Very easy to tie handles
    • All individual bags, no tearing required
    • Thick and durable
    Cons
    • Only one size is available

    4. Bulk Rolls Poop Bags Jumbo Size

Bulk Rolls Poop Bags Jumbo Size

For a larger size, the bulk jumbo bags are a fantastic solution. Featuring a really cute Snoopy print all over the bag, it’s a fun product to use. The larger size makes it easier to pick up multiple wastes (such as when cleaning the backyard), and it ties just as easily as any poop bag does. The box is perforated along with the bags, making opening and tearing very simple.

    Pros
    • Very large in size
    • Features adorable Snoopy artwork from the Peanuts series
    • Both the box and the bags are perforated
    Cons
    • Although they are very durable and won’t rip, they do flop around more than other bags do when full of waste

    5. Poop Bags Hydrant Dispenser

    Poop Bags Hydrant Dispenser

Frankly, this is the cutest design for a poop bag dispenser. Not only is it rather comical, but it’s also quite comfortable and convenient. The velcro strap makes it easy to attach to any leash (or any item, I also attach it to my dog’s carrier), and the inside features a hook that helps hold the poop bag roll in place. It is especially impressive that the holder is also made of recycled materials, as it is quite sturdy and durable.

    Pros
    • Very cute fire hydrant design
    • Easy to attach to any leash or bag
    • Holds the poop bag roll firmly in place
    Cons
    • Only one color is available (green)

Our Experience With The Original Poop Bags

    The-Original-Poop-Bags

From the moment the package arrived, I knew what was inside. The cardboard box is fully branded, which I thought was really cute! It’s also the perfect size for my dog to sit on. Inside were all of the products from The Original Poop Bags, neatly arranged.

At first glance, I loved the packaging of each bag product (and the dispenser). I received both the orange-scented and the unscented Countdown Rolls®, a pack of Handle Tie Poop Bags, a roll of the Bulk Rolls Poop Bags Jumbo Size, and the Poop Bags Hydrant Dispenser. You can tell that a lot of attention to detail was put into the graphic design, and all of the fundamental information (such as the size of the bag, biodegradability, and more) is easily accessible. The Snoopy print on the jumbo bags was especially adorable, a childhood favorite of mine!

The hydrant dispenser immediately went on my dog Lorelei’s leash; I loved the design! It’s especially nifty that this hydrant dispenser can stand on its own and doesn’t just flop over when you put down the leash. The dispenser felt sturdy, and the adjustable Velcro strap is perfect for utilizing on anything.

Inside was a roll of the unscented Countdown Rolls. The numbers don’t start until you get down to 15 bags, but I look forward to seeing those numbers, as that is such a clever idea. That takes the guesswork out of sorting out how many bags are left on the roll once it gets slim. I also tried the scented roll and appreciated that the orange smell wasn’t overpowering.

Both sets of bags felt the same material-wise. The bag felt silky (similar to the fruit bags at Trader Joe’s, if anyone reading knows what I am talking about!), but it didn’t stick to the other rolls and came apart very easily. The perforation was so well perforated that it only took a small amount of force to get a bag – I used to fumble with other bags, and when you’re trying to manage a dog, a leash, and a walk, fumbling sucks. No more getting stuck here, for sure.

My only little “eeek” (which is just something to get used to) is that the bags do seem a bit thin. I could feel the temperature and texture of the waste in the bag, and it was a bit transparent. However, this isn’t that big of a deal—I would much rather be using an environmentally conscious bag that is convenient for me than something alternative. The bag was tied easily and hid the smell completely.

The handle-tie version came in super handy when taking care of my parrot. Of course, I change his food daily and always tie his food to prevent ants from coming in. I could use the handles of this bag one-handed as I poured the old food inside. I quickly tied the bag and threw it out—so convenient! Same with using the Bulk Rolls Poop Bags Jumbo Size to change the newspapers out at the bottom of his cage, the size worked out great. Not once did I think the bag would rip, no matter how much I filled it.

This is the only set of bags I’ll be buying from now on!

    dogster face divider

    Conclusion

In conclusion, The Original Poop Bags are a worthy investment for any pet owner. From bags that are durable and easy to use, to the various sizes offered, and the ability to hide unfavorable scents all the way to saving the environment and helping worthy animal causes, we can all feel great about putting our money towards this company.

Being a puppy parent is full of incredible experiences, but having your favorite shoes chewed and peeing in the house is definitely not at the top of that list. With so many puppy training options, I think that every pet parent (including myself) can feel quite overwhelmed with what to do when a new four-legged bundle comes home – but that’s where programs such as The Puppy Academy come into play.

Originally an on-location school in Southern California, The Puppy Academy has recently launched an online program so that pup moms and dads everywhere can access vital training programs. From helping your new pup walk on a leash to building confidence inside the home, it’s now possible to train from the comfort of the living room – fitting important classes into any schedule.

    About The Puppy Academy

    Puppy Academy Online School

Complete with a homeroom, cute graphics, and well-thought-out lessons, The Puppy Academy very much mimics how a child’s school experience would be. They even use terminology such as “tuition” and “graduation.” After all, there are many comparisons between a puppy and a kid!

The Puppy Academy was masterminded by Ricci and Marco who found themselves being brand-new puppy parents. After leaving on a work-trip, Marco unexpectedly got stuck out of the country and Ricci had to raise their pup Coconut on her own as Marco figured out a way to get back home. Overwhelmed with the not-favorite-parts of raising a puppy, Ricci turned to a professional dog trainer for help. Throughout the training process, Ricci discovered just how much closer her bond with Coconut became, and a lightbulb went off.

Upon Marco’s return home, the two of them decided to open The Puppy Academy, a school and program the two of them wished existed when they first got Coconut. Structuring the program around how elementary schools function (with a timeline better fit for puppies of course!), The Puppy Academy opened as a physical training center in Hermosa Beach, California, that enrolled puppies as young as 10 weeks to as old as 9 months. With wanting to expand to all puppy parents having access to the Academy, and not just those in Southern California, an online version came to fruition.

Is The Puppy Academy Online School a Good Value?

    Puppy Academy Online School

Hands down, The Puppy Academy Online School is an excellent value for both its price and the value it brings to anyone experiencing puppyhood.

Think of it this way: Weekly puppy classes are (on average) $250 for a group six week course (not private lessons). Private lessons can range anywhere from $360 all the way to $7,800 for a puppy. In both cases, the span of time doesn’t come out to a year (most class sections are 6 to 8 weeks in duration). Comparable online programs are about $250 for 6 weeks as well.

The Puppy Academy Online School is a flat rate of $299 for the entire year. You do the math!

In regard to the quality of the lessons, they are top tier. Led by professional trainers Sparky and Bethany, each lesson is really easy to understand and follow. That in and of itself is worth every penny.

    Frequently Asked Questions

How old do puppies have to be to benefit from The Puppy Academy Online School?

The Puppy Academy Online School enrolls puppies as young as 10 weeks old to as old as 9 months old. The online school is targeted towards younger puppies, so the sooner you start the program, the better!

Can you do both in-person and online training?

As The Puppy Academy Online School started as an in-person training facility (and continues to be one to this day), you can enroll in both. However, enrollment is very limited for the in-person training, so it is best to apply early. The online school is open for enrollment at any time and is not limited.

How long until my puppy is trained?

The lessons all conclude in 60 days each (but are intended to be worked on at the same time). However, training is a life-long endeavor, so you shouldn’t stop after 60 days.

Our Experience With The Puppy Academy Online School

    Puppy Academy Online School

My dog is by far not a puppy anymore (she is eight years old), but I really enjoyed checking out the online version of The Puppy Academy (and wishing this was something I could have done all those years ago!).

On a technical front, The Puppy Academy Online School does not require a smidge of technical knowledge to use. Upon enrollment and being granted access, there is just one button to push to open up the Academy. The school page is very simple, with everything you need divided into convenient categories (Orientation, Homeroom, Library, Course, Live Q&A + Coaching, and Resources). Each category opens into subcategories that are also easy to follow along. On the side of the page, you have biographies of the two trainers that you see in the videos, helping familiarize yourself with them and their credentials.

Opening the lessons prompts a video page, with lesson details and a button to jump to the next program. You can sometimes see comments by real time users underneath all of the summaries, and the conversations they have with The Puppy Academy. I found that sometimes people asked very important questions and the Academy answers helped a lot! There is also homework to download after each lesson that helps continue the training at home.

All in all, I thought that The Puppy Academy was very well-thought out, I loved the comparison to elementary school, and you can really feel how much time and effort was placed into the creation of the Online School. The trainers in the videos were very knowledgeable, and the classes really were so easy to follow along. The bonus materials on recommended products for your pup was also a neat little addition!

I plan on bringing a puppy into my home next year, and this is absolutely the program I’ll be investing in. I appreciate the emphasis on positive training and food motivation, while also being a productive program that teaches me (the human) as much as it does my puppy.

    dogster face divider

    Conclusion

The Puppy Academy’s online school is an excellent option for dog parents that want access to this desired training school but may either not live in Southern California or not have the time to take their puppy there.

Open for enrollment by anyone with no limit, The Puppy Academy Online School will help make the puppy years an easier time by building the foundation for a happy adult, helping enforce your current bond with your puppy, and giving you (the parent) the skills for a happy life with your dog. We cannot recommend it enough!

Thank you Lisa for all the detail and thought you put into this! Much appreciated and really enjoyed reading it.

Some dogs are born retrievers. They’ll fetch anything and everything they find. Be it a toy, a sock, or a giant stick, they’re running after it and bringing it back to you. And when it comes to chasing a ball, they’re all in. If this sounds like your dog, you’re going to want Earth Rated’s Fetch Toy.

Earth Rated is a company that specializes in making sustainable pet products. You may know the brand from their growing presence in the dog waste industry (they’re kind of famous for making really great poop bags). But they also make other products, like multi-use dog wipes and high-quality dog toys.

The Fetch Toy is one of five toys in Earth Rated’s line of durable and sustainable dog toys. It’s made from natural rubber and has a wicked, unpredictable bounce, which makes it great for chasing and a ton of fun.

I tried out Earth Rated’s Fetch Toy with my Goldendoodle, Micah, and it’s been one of the best additions to his toy bin. Between the natural materials, crazy bounce, and functional design, this is a toy that will get your dog’s tail wagging. If your furry friend is a die-hard retriever or you’re looking to spoil your pup with a stellar new toy, the Fetch Toy is worth checking out.

Who is the Fetch Toy Best Suited For?

The Fetch Toy is great for any dog who enjoys a good game of fetch. You can use the toy for indoor and outdoor play and the buoyant rubber material makes it ideal for water retrievers. Even if your dog isn’t the retrieving type, the unique wobble, bounce, and roll are enough to get your pup tap dancing across the floor.

The toy comes in one color and three sizes (small, medium, and large) and is not recommended for dogs greater than 65lbs (30kg).

    Fetch Toy Overview

    Earth rated Dog Toy

From quality and durability to materials and design, a lot of thought goes into buying a toy for your four-legged friend. Luckily, Earth Rated makes it easy for you to spoil your pup by providing you with high-quality toys that are built to last.

    What is the Fetch Toy?

The Fetch Toy is part of Earth Rated’s collection of responsibly-made dog toys. It’s an innovative spin-off of a ball and is ergonomically designed to maximize comfort during play. A few ways they’ve customized the toy for you and your pup are through shape and color.

The unique bubble shape is easy for you to grip and allows for natural airflow when held in your dog’s mouth. And what’s not to love about bright yellow? Yellow is a color dogs can naturally see really well, which makes it perfect for your pooch. The bright color also means the toy is easy to find if you happen to lose it in your lawn or your dog is like Micah and enjoys rolling it under the couch.

    Materials

One of the first things I look at when buying dog toys is the material. Since so many products are made with harmful toxic materials, I love that Earth Rated carefully selects their materials to ensure safety.

The Fetch Toy is BPA-free and made with responsibly sourced materials, including PEFC-certified natural rubber. This means the toy is made from non-toxic rubber that’s produced sustainably under strict social and environmental standards.

PEFC rubber is also incredibly durable, which means the toy can withstand rough play and tough jaws.

    Key Features

    Earth rated Dog Toy

    High-Quality and Durable

Unless you have a seriously gentle dog, it can be hard to find a toy that survives long enough to be enjoyed. Luckily, the Fetch Toy is rigorously tested for long-lasting durability and toughness. It’s also meant to be chased (not chewed), so as long as your pup is following the crazy bounce, there’s a good chance they won’t destroy it.

Micah likes playing fetch outside, and the toy has held up well against dirt, pavement, grass, and Micah’s mouth. That said, it’s still best to keep an eye on your pup during playtime.

    Ergonomic Design

From the fun shape to the bright color, the Fetch Toy is uniquely designed to engage your pup and keep them moving. It’s also designed with you (the human ball launcher) in mind. Along with being easy to grip and easy to find, the toy is lightweight, so you can throw it as far as you’d like and your pup can effortlessly pick it up.

I like how visible it is in the grass and Micah loves the shape.

    Crazy Bounce

With an unpredictable bounce, this toy has a mind of its own, and Micah absolutely loves it. The bounce is high, the pattern is unpredictable, and the reach is far. One bounce will have your dog sprinting across your yard and chasing their tail.

Be mindful of your living space if you decide to bounce the toy indoors. It might get a little chaotic.

Is the Fetch Toy a Good Value?

    Earth rated Dog Toy

The Fetch Toy is a great value. Ranging from $6.99 to $9.99, it’s on the lower end of the price range when compared to similar toys from competitor brands. But the lower price point doesn’t mean it’s of lesser value. This is a high-quality toy that’s built to last and designed for endless play. As the cheapest toy in Earth Rated’s collection, it’s a great option if you want a quality toy and are on a tighter budget.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Fetch Toy made for tough chewers?

All of Earth Rated’s toys have been tested for durability and resistance to biting and pulling. However, the Fetch Toy is designed for playing fetch, not chewing, so it’s best to supervise your pup during play.

If you know your dog is an aggressive chewer, Earth Rated recommends sizing up.

How do I clean the toy?

The Fetch Toy is top-rack dishwasher safe, so you can run it through a wash cycle for a quick and easy clean. You can also hand wash it in the sink. If hand-washing, a bottle brush is recommended for areas that are hard to clean.

Where can I buy the Fetch Toy?

While you can’t purchase directly from Earth Rated’s website, you can find their products at local stores and online.

You can check out Earth Rated’s Store Locator to find a store near you. Or, if you prefer online shopping, you can check out Amazon.com, Amazon.ca, and Chewy.com.

I did a quick Google search and found Earth Rated’s products (including the Fetch Toy) available at so many local and online stores and boutiques, so you’re not likely to leave empty-handed if you go looking for it.

Our Experience with the Earth Rated Fetch Toy

    Earth rated Dog Toy

I don’t know what it is about this toy but Micah has been obsessed with it from the minute it arrived. After removing the packaging, I let him check it out and he didn’t want to let it go. He picked it up (tail wagging) and wouldn’t put it down. He carried it around the house, sat with it on his bed, and walked around with it outside.

When it was time to play fetch, he got so excited to play with the toy.

If there’s one thing you should know about Micah, it’s that he has a specific way of letting everyone know when he’s a very happy boy. When he gets excited about his favorite things–food, hikes, playing with his friend Murphy–he jumps up and down straight into the air like Tigger. I call them his kangaroo hops.

Well, he gets kangaroo hop excited when I bring out the Fetch Toy. After playing a few games of fetch with him, I could see why.

Thanks to the irregular shape, the toy has a wild bounce. A fun toy needs a fun shape and Earth Rated did a fantastic job of designing the Fetch Toy to be engaging. Every time I throw the toy or Micah drops it, it zig zags across the floor sending Micah into a wild goose chase. The shape fits nicely in Micah’s mouth too since the nobs are perfect for gripping.

Micah is also a sensory pooch and loves anything with a fun noise or feel. While the toy doesn’t make noise, it is rubbery, so when he bites down to grip it, there’s a bit of give. I wouldn’t say it’s squishy, but it does have a springy texture and Micah absolutely loves this.

My experience with the company has been great as well. The toy arrived wrapped in tissue paper and Earth Rated included a handwritten note. I always love cute packaging and nothing says we love your dog like a handwritten note, so the personalized message was a nice added touch.

Compared to other rubber toys, the Fetch Toy gets dirty fast. After rolling it across a clean floor, it was covered in lint, dog fur, and dust. I found myself rinsing it a lot for indoor play since I like having a (somewhat) clean toy when playing in the house and Micah is finicky about having fuzz in his mouth.

The good news is the toy is dishwasher safe and easy to clean, so a quick rinse in the sink had it looking brand new.

Like any toy, it’s recommended to supervise your pup during play and use the toy for its intended use (fetching). If your dog is hard on their toys, Earth Rated recommends sizing up, and if you have a dog over 65 lbs, it’s best to choose a different toy in Earth Rated’s collection.

    Conclusion

The Fetch Toy is perfect for everyday play. The lightweight design makes it easy to throw and the bright yellow color is easy to find in any backyard or living space. I love that it’s safe for Micah and between the unique shape and crazy bounce, it’s quickly become one of Micah’s favorites.

Whether your dog is a ball-obsessed fetching fanatic or simply loves a good toy, the Fetch Toy is a great way to bond with your furry friend.
