Woman Who Survived A Rollover Crash Gets Reunited With Missing Dog

A woman who was driving on Interstate 95 on Saturday, September 14, got involved in a rollover crash that made her Labrador take off. Days after the unfortunate event, the owner-dog duo finally gets reunited.

Debbie Dawson recounts the whole accident to NBC 6 South Florida. She recalls as she saw a car cross over the pylons on I-95, right in front of her.

She tells the news outlet, “I saw her car coming and I just said, ‘I’m going to die,’ and honest to God, that’s all I remember. And then I just remember waking up in the middle of 95.”

Upon impact, Dawson said she blacked out, and she later learned that her car flipped over four times during the crash.

Her car’s windows shattered during the rollover, and that’s how Moose, Dawson’s 15-month-old black Labrador took off.

Dawson said her first instinct was to run after her beloved pooch, but a witness stopped her, due to her injuries.

“I didn’t care. I wasn’t thinking about myself, I just could think about him,” Dawson said.

Thankfully for Dawson, she was immediately taken to the hospital, with only minor injuries.

However, Moose was missing for days. And they couldn’t find him because his Apple AirTag came off during the accident.

But Dawson and her family were determined to bring Moose back home.

“We were riding around moments after we were done searching, it’s lightning and thunder and starting to rain and knowing this guy was out there, it was terrible,” Corey Dawson, Debbie’s husband, said.

While the husband and wife were busy searching for Moose, their children took to social media to look for Moose, hoping that someone has spotted the pooch.

Walker Dawson, Debbie’s son said, “I was getting phone calls in the middle of the night, same as my dad, with people who were trying to join in and give us tips and tricks.”

The family’s efforts didn’t go in vain. Because on Tuesday, September 17, they got a call that Moose was finally found, alive!

Oakland Park firefighters saw Moose hiding in the brush off the highway, about a mile away from the crash site.

The poor pooch had his paw pads injured due to the fact that he was running on hot pavement. He was also visibly traumatized and scared, but otherwise okay.

The firefighters helped Moose go home and be reunited with his family. Debbie said the firefighters who rescued her pooch “deserve medals”.

“They promised me that they would find him and they did, and I cannot, cannot thank them enough for all their work and hard effort, not giving up.”

Now that Moose is safe and the whole Dawson family is once again complete, Corey had a message to drivers,

“The takeaway for me would be, because a lot of lives have been changed in this thing, is if you would just look when you’re driving, that’s the reality,” he said.

Police Scotland Pays Tribute To Police Dog Who Sniffed Out Drugs Worth $12M Throughout Career

Tributes have been paid to police dog Gizmo, who was based at Loch Ryan, Scotland, after passing away on August 08 after a period of illness.

Police Scotland Dumfries & Galloway announced the police dog’s passing on Tuesday, September 24.

According to the Police Divisions, the 11-year-old Sprocker Spaniel had a 10-year career as a police dog.

And during Gizmo’s time as a police dog, he was able to sniff out drugs worth $12 million in the area and across the country.

Aside from sniffing out drugs, Gizmo also worked at major events such as state visits, music events, and sporting events.

Gizmo was first introduced by Police Scotland on Christmas in 2014 when he just joined the border policing team at Loch Ryan Port.

In 2015, Gizmo became the successor of another amazing police dog, Buster. Buster retired after a successful career that lasted for 7 years. During Buster’s time as a police dog, he was able to detect over $7 million worth of drugs in Scotland.

In a June 2015 Facebook post, Police Scotland wrote, “One year old Gizmo is taking over Buster’s search duties – hunting for weapons, drugs, cash, stolen items and explosives. He learnt a lot from Buster in the day they spent working together.”

And after learning from the best, Gizmo went on to become one of, if not the most talented, police dog in Scotland.

In 2022 alone, Gizmo, after working with Border Police, was able to find cannabis with an estimated street value of $1.5 million at the seaports in a village in Scotland called Cairnryan.

Detective Sergeant David Hanlon said: “We are deeply saddened by the death of Police Dog Gizmo, who was a fundamental part of our team.”

“Police dogs are a crucial support in our work to keep our communities safe and deter crime.”

“Gizmo was a valued colleague, and he will be sadly missed, especially by his former handler.”

Dog’s Quick Action Helps Prevent House Fire From Spreading

A dog’s quick action helped his owner stop a fire from spreading in their Fairlington townhouse on Thursday, September 19.

Archie, the four-year-old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, became his owner’s, Shravani Bobde, hero when he started incessantly licking her arm in the wee hours of the morning.

Thanks to Archie’s “signal”, Bobde woke up. She tells ARLnow that when she did, she started smelling smoke. So, she got up and began searching her house for the source of the smell.

“I started investigating, trying to figure out where this smoke is coming from. Eventually, I figured out that it was in the attic,” Bobde said.

Bobde proceeded to switch off the circuit breaker and opened her windows to let the smoke out, which prevented her smoke detector from sounding.

ARLnow reports that an electrician later revealed to Bobde that a slow-burning electrical fire had developed overnight inside Bobde’s HVAC unit.

After Archie and Bobde’s quick actions, the fire was contained in the HVAC unit, which Bobde revealed is now replaced.

She attributed the prevention of a fire from spreading in the house and to adjacent townhouses to Archie’s quick actions.

She said, “I’m just reflecting that if [Archie] hadn’t woken me up and I had not turned the breaker off, the fire would have escalated. Like, it would have spread slowly.”

Furthermore, Bobde said she is thankful for Archie’s “fierce guard dog” spirit, which seem unusual for his breed. She also said that she loves Archie and that “he’s a unique creature”.

She also revealed that after the incident, Bobde, Archie, and her other dogs all went back to bed and slept through the whole thing.

“I would love for Archie to be recognized for the hero he was last night, [saving] me, his brother, Percy, and our neighbors,” Bobde said.
