Shelter Dog Who Has ‘Feud’ With His Doggy Door Receives Over 100 Adoption Application

For a lot of dogs, doggy doors are fun and gives them the freedom to go in and out of their homes whenever they want.

However, for one shelter dog at the Michigan Animal Rescue League, the doggy door is NOT fun – like AT ALL.

The shelter dog from the Michigan Animal Rescue League, named Arnold, is totally bamboozled over his doggy door – and the internet loves him for it!

Arnold is described as “goofy, affectionate, curious and bold” by content coordinator at Michigan Animal Rescue League Tommy Sanfilippo in an interview with The Dodo.

He is an English Bulldog/Pit Bull Terrier Mix and was found as a stray, so he had a rough start in life. But that doesn’t stop him from having a zest for life!

His profile reads, “Arnold is playful, friendly, and always ready for his next adventure, whether it’s a game of fetch, a long walk, or simply soaking up affection from his favorite humans.”

His profile also reveals that his warm and outgoing personality is sure to steal hearts, which he’s already proven now that the internet is in love with him!

You see, Arnold was moved to a new kennel recently, and it had a clear plastic doggy door that lets him freely move in and out anytime he wants.

However, Arnold is not like the other dogs – what other dogs see as the door of freedom, Arnolds sees as his nemesis.

Sanfilippo said, “Arnold was pretty stumped by his doggy door.”

“We tried putting treats on the other side to entice him through, and even had a staff member squeeze through to show him that it’s okay, but he remained pretty wary of it,” he added.

In a TikTok video posted by the animal shelter, a staff member reveals, “Arnold just moved into a new kennel.”

The video then pans to Arnold, looking at the doggy door with a puzzled look, while the staff says, “He is not yet sure how to get through the dog door. He might need some pointers. Can anyone help my boy out?”

Now, Arnold is no longer afraid of the doggy door. So, to him, the next course of action was to pick a fight with the door.

In a follow up video, Arnold can be seen biting the plastic dog door with all his might and the staff saying, “you’re an interesting man, Arnold.”

While we mourn the demise of the plastic dog door as Arnold continues to antagonize it, the Internet is falling head over heels for the doggy door destroyer!

“Does Arnold know he’s a star?” one TikTok user wrote. “Way to overcome your fears, Arnold! We’re so proud of you,” another wrote.

Another user wrote, “There is a very special family out there waiting for this small man and his enthusiastic views about life.”

Sanfilippo reveals that Arnold’s “feud” with the doggy door has resulted in 120 adoption applications so far.

“Obviously he can only go to one home, but it’s cool to see interest in our shelter that could lead to some of our other animals getting adopted as well,” Sanfilippo said.

With the amount of applications for Arnold, we’re sure he’s going to meet his forever family soon, say goodbye to his shelter nemesis, and find a new enemy to fight with to fill all his doggy days!

FDA Issues Warning Letter To Mid America Pet Food LLC Due To Salmonella In Their Dog Foods

On December 10, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) released the warning letter they sent to Mid America Pet Food LLC on November 22 citing different concerns and violations that the company committed.

The warning letter contained information about the inspections conducted by the FDA in the company’s food manufacturing facility in Mount Pleasant, Texas in November 2023 and January 2024.

This comes after Mid America Pet Food LLC made different voluntary recalls in September and October, which they both expanded in November last year, when Salmonella was detected in certain lots of their Victor dog food.

Aside from the inspection being made due to the voluntary recalls, the FDA also made the inspection as part of an investigation with the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) into a multi-state foodborne illness outbreak of Salmonella Kiambu.

The warning letter reveals, “A total of seven people from seven states were infected with the outbreak strain from January 14, 2023 to August 19, 2023, and one person was hospitalized.”

“Six of the affected people were children under one year of age,” the FDA adds.

The illnesses were linked to the dog food manufactured in Mid America Pet Food LLC’s facility in 2023 through a sample of Victor Super Premium Dog Food Classic Hi-Pro Plus (lot 1000016385; Best By 4/30/24), which the company recalled in September 2023.

Based on results, the FDA has deemed the product Victor Super Premium Dog Food Classic Hi-Pro Plus (lot 1000016385; Best By 4/30/24) as “adulterated”.

This means, “it bears or contains a poisonous or deleterious substance which may render it injurious to health,” the FDA explains.

Furthermore, the FDA conducted another inspection earlier this year, from January 23 to February 09 due to a consumer complaint.

During the inspection, the FDA found not one, not two, but three strains of Salmonella in the company’s manufacturing facility: Salmonella Rissen, Salmonella Minnesota, and Salmonella Mbandaka.

In addition to this, the FDA investigators also found evidence of other significant violations of the Current Good Manufacturing Practice, Hazard Analysis, and Risk-Based Preventive Controls for Food for Animals requirements in Title 21, Code of Federal Regulations, Part 507 (21 CFR Part 507).

With these violations, the FDA said the company’s products are “adulterated in that they were prepared, packed, or held under insanitary conditions whereby they may have become contaminated with filth, or whereby they may have been rendered injurious to health.”

In the warning letter’s conclusion, the FDA wrote, “It is your responsibility to ensure that your firm complies with all requirements of federal law and FDA regulations.”

The FDA also reveals that if Mid America Pet Food LLC fails to properly address these concerns and violations, it may lead to legal action, “including, without limitation, seizure, and injunction.”

On His First Walk After A Major Surgery, Retired K9 Dog Locates And Rescues Missing Man

Retirement didn’t stop a retired police dog after it located and rescued a missing person in East Sussex, England on his first ever walk since having major surgery.

The German Shepherd, named Bear, reportedly found the man in the forest on November 28 while being walked by owner, Julia Pope, a former police officer, The Guardian reveals.

What made the rescue special was that Bear, who was on his first ever walk two weeks after getting surgery to remove two benign tumors, was also celebrating his 12th birthday on the same day!

But such celebration did not stop Bear from locating and alerting his owner to a man in “dense undergrowth” while on their walk.

The Thin Blue Paw Foundation, a national charity that supports serving and retired police dogs across the UK, reveals on a Facebook post, “Unbeknownst to RPD Bear, the man was a vulnerable missing person who officers had been searching for without success.”

Pope tells The Guardian that Bear immediately “went into work mode” after it sensed the lost individual.

Recalling the incident, Pope explains, “[He] then dragged us to it, where he located and alerted us to a vulnerable man. I’m not sure he would have survived the night as it was extremely cold and almost dark at that point with no one else in the vicinity.”

The dog owner adds that Bear lead the way and helped the man back to an area where he could coordinate with local officers and reunite with his loved ones.

Pope describes the whole encounter as an “amazing stroke of luck”.

“RPD Bear, you’re a true hero, showing us that even in retirement, you can still save lives,” the Thin Blue Paw Foundation wrote.

Bear served with Sussex Police Dog Unit for seven years and was adopted by Pope in 2020 after his retirement.

In 2023, the retired police dog had to get emergency surgery due to having four herniated discs in his back, which caused him collapse. For this, he was supported by the Thin Blue Paw Foundation.
