Three Abandoned Dogs Chained In A Neglected Shelter Found And Rescued

The Pennsylvania SPCA (PSPCA) recently found and rescued three abandoned dogs after receiving a call from a police officer who found the dogs in a heartbreaking situation.

On October 25, the PSPCA shared the story of three dogs – Bam, Beau, and Brenda.

“Abandoned. Forgotten. Fighting for their lives,” that’s exactly how the animal shelter found these dogs before rescuing them.

“One week ago, we received a call from a Chester city police officer stating that he was with a property owner who had discovered three dogs tied up near their business,” PSPCA revealed on a Facebook post.

But when it was time to rescue them, PSPCA was not prepared for the situation that they found the dogs in.

“When our Animal Law Enforcement team arrived, the scene was more harrowing than we could have imagined. Tied up with chains to makeshift shelters, were Bam, Beau, and Brenda.”

The animal shelter explained that it was clear that the three dogs were not cared for and were abandoned for quite a while.

Describing the heartbreaking situation the dogs were in, PSPCA wrote, “All three were suffering from fly strike, while Bam and Beau were also emaciated and covered in pressure sores.”

“Their bowls were empty, and even the bowls themselves had been chewed on in search of any last morsel of food or water,” the animal shelter adds.

While all dogs were in terrible condition, PSPCA reveals that out of the three dogs, Bam was in the worst condition.

PSPCA explains that Bam scores 1/9 on the Purina Body Condition System. Scoring a 1/9 on this scale means a dog is too thin and his ribs, spine, pelvic bones, and almost all of his bones are evident from a distance.

On top of being severely malnourished, Bam also “had wounds on his ears and a very large, painful open sore on his hind end. He had fractured teeth and was severely anemic.”

Thankfully, PSPCA rushed Bam, along with Beau, to their hospital to receive the lifesaving care they desperately needed.

“They were both started on medications to treat their wounds and refeeding plans to slowly help them gain weight,” the animal shelter shares.

The animal shelter also shares that Brenda, who was thankfully in less critical condition, received medical treatment and care. “In fact, she may soon be available for adoption,” PSPCA adds.

Furthermore, PSPCA reveals to The Dodo that Beau recently moved to the shelter’s greenhouse, a space for adoptable animals.

Meanwhile, Bam remains in the shelter’s hospital, taking all the time he needs to fully recover and heal.

“With each day that passes, all three dogs are becoming stronger and learning to open their hearts up to people,” PSPCA wrote.

“They may have been forgotten in the past, but with us, they never will be.”

Being A Dad To Foster Kittens Changes This Depressed Dog For The Better

A woman who used to foster dogs and cats is sharing the story of how foster kittens changed the life of her furry-friend who went from being “the saddest dog” to a playful and happy pooch.

Claudia Papp, or more famously known on her social media accounts as “houstonfosterdogmom”, is sharing the story of her rescue dog, Chapo, and how fostering kittens changed his life for the better.

Papp shares Chapo’s origin story and his “kitten medicine” in a series of TikTok videos she started uploading on September, during the pooch’s Gotcha Day anniversary.

Life was not as good to Chapo prior to meeting Papp. The dog spent four years chained up before animal control found him.

Papp shares with SWNS that because Chapo spent a long time chained in a yard and neglected, he had developed a skin infection, has intestinal worms, and a fractured set of teeth from chewing on his chain.

After being rescued, Chapo was sent to a kill shelter. Papp then saw a video of Chapo looking sad and immediately decided to foster him – giving Chapo a second chance at life, and at a loving forever home.

When Papp picked him up at the shelter where he came from, he was “the saddest dog on his last day [before being put down].”

Papp said, “For months, progress was slow and I began to worry about him.”

She then realized that the pooch liked the company of Papp’s cat.

“I decided to say “yes” to fostering a sick kitten and let Chapo help me take care of her,” she explains. “And then I realized Chapo was coming out of his shell because of her so I just kept fostering kittens for them, and for him.”

Papp fostered a total of six kittens for Chapo, “it was the medicine I never expected,” she said.

“Those kittens will never know how much they did for him, but Chapo is so grateful,” she wrote on a Tiktok video caption, which has now garnered over 2 million likes.

Papp also shares that Chapo is her 48th foster dog, “and the only foster I’ve ever adopted for myself,” she reveals.

She explains why Chapo was the only foster she decided to officially adopt, despite having fostered a lot of lovely dogs and cats.

“I’ve fostered a lot of animals and I’ve seen A LOT of trauma on these animals, but something about this dog… he is just absolutely magical and I couldn’t let him go.”

Today, Chapo has “officially made up for lost time”. He now lives a safe and happy life with Papp where he is able to run freely in his own backyard, be with friends (his foster kittens), and just be loved by his hooman every day.

Bald Dog Found Next To A Deceased Dog In An Empty Field Recovers And Goes To A Foster Home

An animal shelter in St. Louis, Missouri shares the story of Cardi B – a bald dog they helped rescue, recover, and find a foster home after being left abandoned in an empty field in July of this year.

“Sadness surrounds us,” that’s how the Stray Rescue of St. Louis started their Facebook post for a bald dog they helped rescue in July.

The animal shelter shared that a Good Samaritan was driving when they pulled over to the side of the road after seeing “a lone crate set in the tall, green grass.”

“It is empty, but there are figures beside it,” the animal shelter wrote. “As you approach, you cover your mouth with your hand. Next to the crate is a dog that has passed away, hit by a car. And next to him is an old dog, missing all of her hair, and suffering from a broken pelvis. She can’t get up or walk.”

After the terrifying and heartbreaking scene before her, the Good Samaritan became so angry but made sure the dog gets the help she needs.

“Thankfully, the finder made it her duty to help them. She is a hero. She called all over but couldn’t get anyone to help this dog,” Stray Rescue of St. Louis continued.

Thankfully, Stray Rescue of St. Louis got a call from the Good Samaritan a few days after she found the dog. “She named the female Cardi B, and she brought her to Stray Rescue for emergency medical care.”

Initially, the Good Samaritan who rescued Cardi B, Sarah Barney, made a post about the dog’s situation but got no rescue interest.

Thankfully, her good friend, Julie Christofferson, shared the story on her Facebook, which helped them get help for the dog.

Christofferson shares, “She [the dog] wasn’t alone, sadly her sweet pup friend did not survive and she didn’t leave his side.”

She also shares the condition they found Cardi B in. She said, “her condition is absolutely horrific.”

She explains that Cardi B had ‘unbelievable’ hair loss from thousands of fleas and has burns all over her body, “which the vet says are likely from urine and feces scalds from being crammed into a tiny crate and left to sit for days on end”.

Furthermore, her teeth were also ground down to nothing and is suffering from anemia that she couldn’t even get up on her own.

“To think of what she’s been through in her few short years is devastating to fathom. Her sweet pup friend suffered from the same deplorable conditions,” Christofferson wrote.

After a week since Cardi B was rescued, Stray Rescue of St. Louis shared an update saying that the dog “has done a 180”.

The animal shelter also discovered that Cardi B is already an old lady! She’s 13 years old, but for her, life’s just about to be good!

“After just one week of love, nutrition, medical care, and a set of WHEELS, this girl is on the move,” the animal shelter shares. “She’s 13 years old and READY to live her life the way it’s meant to be lived! With tons of love and care.”

Today, Cardi B is living the life she so rightfully deserves: happy, safe, and loved.

A few months after Cardi B’s rescue, the animal shelter shared the pooch’s ‘Glow Up’ on October with a series of photos.

“After spending some time in our clinic, she went to a foster home,” they shared.

“Those puppy eyes! You can just tell how much better she feels. Her foster says she’s been getting up on her own.”

The animal shelter also shares that Cardi B loves chasing balls and enjoys swimming now – “That is what it’s all about,” they wrote.

“Cardi B, we love you, baby! Thank you, thank you to everyone who supports rescue dogs, they deserve the help,” Stray Rescue of St. Louis wrote.
