House Fire Leaves Dog Burned, Man Arrested In Connection To Fire

After a house fire leaves a dog burned, a man was arrested in connection to the fire that happened in Riverside, Brooklyn on Sunday, November 17.

According to Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department (JFRD), when they responded to the home at around 3:00 AM, no one lived in the home, so no one was hospitalized due to the fire.

While they are still looking into the cause of the house fire, a JFRD spokesperson reveals that it’s being investigated as an arson case and a suspect is already in custody.

Maris Johnson, who lives at the apartments across the street from the home, tells First Coast News, “This morning when you came through, all you see is smoke all throughout the area.”

She also said that she’s relieved that the fire didn’t seem to impact any of their neighboring units.

While there were no hooman casualties, the JFRD spokesperson told First Coast News that they pulled a dog from the fire and was, thankfully, able to revive it.

The spokesperson says that the Department believes that the dog belonged to the suspect, so he could also be facing animal cruelty charges.

“As a pet owner, dogs can’t fend for themselves, so it’s like, ‘Dang, did you really leave a dog there next to a fire?’ So, it’s definitely good someone found the dog.”

The dog had visible burns on the side of its mouth and also had plastic burns on its body.

According to News4Jax, a woman who lives near the house that went on fire, Tracy Russell, tended to the dog, along with two other women.

The news outlet also reveals that the dog has been taken to animal control to be taken care of.

First Coast News also reports that while their crew was at the scene, a man stopped by, claiming he maintains the property for the owner.

The man said the homeowner hasn’t lived their in a few years.

PETA Offers $16K Reward Tips To Help Georgia Officials Identify Man Who Dragged Dogs Behind His Car

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) is offering a total of $16,000 to help officials in Georgia identify a man who dragged two dogs he tied to the back of a car, which resulted to the death of one.

In a press release on Wednesday, October 30, the DeKalb County District Attorney’s Office have asked the public’s help to help identify the man.

The press release reveals more information about the man and the incident that happened on Friday, September 13.

“Surveillance camera video showed a man pull into the parking lot of the Redan Recreation Center on Phillips Road in Lithonia dragging two dogs behind his vehicle,” investigators reveal.

“The man got out of the car, untied the dogs from the bumper and then left them for dead.”

A witness called the police after seeing the dogs in the parking lot. The officer who responded to the scene discovered the two dogs with ropes tied around their necks.

The press release reveals, “One of the dogs—a medium-sized, black, mixed breed male between one and seven years old—was deceased.”

“The other dog—a medium-sized, brindle, mixed breed male around nine months old—was treated for severe injuries and is currently in the care of DeKalb County Animal Services/Lifeline Animal Project.”

The man hasn’t been identified yet as they have appeared to back out of the parking lot to avoid surveillance cameras from recording their car’s license plate number.

However, investigators believe that the car used to drag the dogs is a 2008-2012 Chevrolet Malibu.

And that the driver is wearing dark pants, a white baseball cap, and a dark gray top with a white logo on the chest and white writing across the back.

PETA has now stepped in to help investigators by offering a reward of up to $10,000 and an additional $6,000 from local animal protection groups.

According to PETA’s statement, “animal abusers are often repeat offenders who represent a threat to the entire community“, hence the reward they have put out.

PETA President Ingrid Newkirk also said, “The agony and terror that these two dogs must have endured as a cruel person bound them to a car, sped down the road, and left them to die in a parking lot is unimaginable.”

PETA and the DeKalb County District Attorney’s Office are asking anyone with information regarding the animal abuse to call the DeKalb County Animal Enforcement tip line at 404-294-2939.

Carmichael Woman Arrested After Cutting Dog’s Throat And Dumping It In Garbage Bin

A woman in Carmichael, California was arrested and later released after she cut her dog’s throat and threw it in the trash on Wednesday, October 16.

CBS News reports that the dog owner, identified as 41-year-old Danielle Danielle Killian, lived alone in an apartment complex on Manzanita Avenue in Carmichael with two dogs and a cat, and was the sole care provider for the animals.

In a news release by the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office, they revealed that Killian told deputies that she felt her life would be easier if she only had one dog, and then decided to cut one dog’s throat and dump it in the trash.

Deputies responded to Killian’s apartment complex on the night of October 16, after they received a report saying that a dog was found in the trash can, with something tied around its neck.

Furthermore, the caller reveals that the dog had a cut around its throat, but was still alive.

Killian was immediately detained at her apartment while Animal Control “took the injured dog for medical treatment and took custody of the other dog,” the Sheriff’s Office revealed.

While the injured dog was fortunately still alive, the Sheriff’s Office revealed that Killian placed the dog in a shopping bag and “disposed of it in the garbage bin” at her apartment complex on October 15.

“Detectives then executed a search warrant of her apartment, leading to the discovery of the knife presumably used in this incident,” the Sheriff’s Office wrote.

“Killian was arrested and transported to the Sacramento County Main Jail. She was granted release on her own recognizance by the courts and has since been released from custody.”

While both of Killian’s dogs are in safe hands, the Sheriff’s Office reveals that the detectives were unable to locate her cat.

They also feared that other animals she may have in the past may have suffered abused, “as she told Detectives she moved around regularly, as often as once a year.”

The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office urged anyone who has information of the incident or of Killian to contact them.
